Art Show Winners Announced, Exhibit Open To
Public
MVES’ office corridors are once again decorated with the works of local senior artists. Over 40 senior
artists from MVES' service area submitted 77 pieces of art as part of the agency's eighth Senior Fine Art Show.
To kick off the annual art show, artists and their families and friends attended an opening reception on April 30 at
MVES. Participating artists were the first to peruse the corridors and see their own artwork on display. Art judges had selected winners the previous
day, and artists in painting and photography categories were presentated with awards at the reception.

New Research Study For People After A Hip
Fracture
The icy conditions of the past winter resulted in a larger than usual number of people suffering
a broken hip. Many people who break their hip continue to have problems with walking and other daily activities well after their rehabilitative care
ends.
A group of researchers from Boston University, Partners Healthcare, and the MGH Institute of Health Professions are
currently conducting a research study to find out if an exercise program that people can do in their homes can help people improve their functional
level after a hip fracture.

From Executive Director Dan O'Leary
May is Older Americans Month. It’s a time when we should celebrate the richness that
elders bring to our communities. However, it’s also an appropriate time to increase awareness about elder abuse, a sad reality across our
country and the MVES communities.

Planning Ahead For Long Term
Care
Question: My husband and I have been talking
about purchasing long-term care insurance in the event that one of us needs nursing home care in the future. Is long-term care insurance the best
option or are we missing something? We want to make a good decision.
Answer: The best way to make a good decision
is to contact an elder law attorney who is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and/or a Certified Financial Planner or trusted
financial advisor who is familiar with estate planning laws and regulations. Only a skilled advisor can give you the direction that you need for your
specific situation. With that disclaimer, I’ll provide some general information about long-term care insurance that should
help.
