Are you a problem solver? Do you have good analytical skills? Did you recently retire and find that you are ready for a new commitment? If yes, Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) wants you to volunteer! MVES is looking for residents of Malden to become health insurance counselors for the SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) Program. SHINE counselors provide unbiased information regarding health insurance options for elders and Medicare beneficiaries of all ages in communities north and northeast of Boston. Volunteers are needed today!
As a trained SHINE counselor, you will be able to assist elders with questions and concerns related to Medicare, MassHealth (Medicaid), Medicare Part D plans, and Prescription Advantage. Most SHINE volunteers commit two to four hours per week to provide this valuable information service.
People interested in becoming SHINE volunteers will be provided with 60 hours of training—10 class sessions that run twice a week. Although the original time commitment for the training course is significant, SHINE volunteers find that the training is worth their time when they are able to help elders with this often confusing subject. The training course for new volunteers is scheduled to begin June 1. Interested area residents are encouraged to contact MVES as soon as possible.
