MVES Awards Grants to Local Non-Profit Agencies

Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) recently awarded sub-grants to seven local non-profit organizations. The sub-grants were awarded to organizations whose services help MVES broaden its mission of assisting elders and caregivers. The awards are for federal fiscal year 2010, which is October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.

The Title III sub-grantees for the 2010 federal fiscal year are:

  • The Arc of East Middlesex—to continue support programs for elders caring for adults with disabilities.
  • The Community Family—to provide weekend respite care for elders with dementia.
  • Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center— to provide outreach services to Chinese-speaking Asian elders.
  • Greater Boston Legal Services—to provide legal services to low-income or marginalized elders.
  • Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice—to facilitate a caregiver support group for elders.
  • The Immigrant Learning Center—to provide English for Speakers of Other Languages classes to elder immigrants.
  • MAB Community Services—to provide in-home assessments and other support to visually-impaired elders.

Each year, as part of the Older American's Act, Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) receives federal grants to help serve local elders. A portion of these grants is used to fund local organizations that provide services outside of MVES' core capacity. MVES selects these organizations—called Title III sub-grantees—after careful review of all submitted proposals.

Title III grants are managed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Executive Office of Elders Affairs.
