With its combination of snow and frigid temperatures, this winter has
affected young and old. When weather reaches extremes, we need to look
out for our friends and neighbors to make sure everyone is safe.
This cold weather can put a strain on budgets and on furnaces. Please
take a few minutes to check in on your neighbors. Verify that furnaces
or heating systems are working properly and that your neighbors have
been able to get out to purchase food.
MVES employees continually visit clients and part of each visit is
to make sure clients are successfully dealing with the cold. From case
managers to Meals on Wheels drivers, MVES staff ensure tough weather
doesn't compromise elders' safety.
If you have a neighbor that you think may be having trouble with the
cold, please reach out to them. Or, call MVES' Information Services
department at 781-324-7705, ext. 100, to learn about available resources
and assistance. You can always remain anonymous if you prefer.
Let's hope for warmer weather soon, but in the meantime, let's help
each other through the cold.
