New Menu Choices At Senior Meal Sites Who likes to have a choice—especially when it comes to food? We all do! Starting on March 1, seniors in North Reading, Stoneham, and Wakefield have enjoyed a choice when it comes to lunch. MVES began offering seniors who attend the senior meal sites in these towns a choice between two carefully prepared entrees. “In our continuing effort to provide seniors with nutritious and pleasing meals, we have added a second menu item on several days of the week,” said MVES Nutrition Director Renelle Roy. “We are committed to providing high-quality meals to seniors…offering a menu choice dovetails with that commitment.” Three days a week, seniors are able to choose between a traditional hot lunch entrée or a sandwich and salad. As always, both meal choices are nutritiously balanced by a registered dietitian and include hot soup, milk, and dessert. A sample menu for one day is corn chowder, turkey vegetable casserole, peas, carrots, green beans, a biscuit and a pineapple dessert or corn chowder, a ham and cheese sandwich, a Caesar salad, German potato salad, oatmeal bread, and a pineapple dessert. “With additional menu choices, we hope more seniors will come to the senior centers for a nutritious meal and the opportunity to visit with others,” said Roy. Seniors are encouraged to make a $1.50 donation to help offset the cost of operating the meal site. To reserve a meal, residents should place their order one day in advance. For more information about the new choice menu, please call MVES at 781-324-7705. The choice menu will be coming to other area communities soon.
