Show Off Your Art Skills!

If you have artistic talent, enjoy painting or just have a love for art, we’d like to see your work!

Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) will be hosting it’s sixth annual Senior Fine Art Show on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Traditionally held in the fall, this year's event will take place during the spring. The Senior Fine Art Show displays the talents of amateur and professional senior artists, who are age 60 and over and who are from the towns of Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, and Wakefield.

Senior artists are welcome to submit framed paintings of art in oil, acrylic, pastel, and water color. Framed sketches with a total frame size of 24 x 36 inches or less will also be accepted. Also, new to the contest this year will be a photography category. Participants can submit framed photographs with a minimum size of 8 x 10 inches. There is no entry fee for the event and artists are free to submit their work to MVES at 300 Commercial Street on April 25, 26, and 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All paintings and photos submitted must be framed or wired so that they can be hung on the walls throughout the MVES office.

“MVES is proud to celebrate the sixth annual Senior Fine Art Show,” said Daniel J. O’Leary, executive director at MVES. “The Senior Fine Art Show is a fun event that celebrates the creativity and talents of all elders in our community, regardless of their talent level.”

MVES will host an opening reception for all participating senior artists, family, friends, and art lovers on Wednesday, May 4. Awards will be presented for painting and photography categories and refreshments will be served. Winners in each category will be awarded first, second and third place and honorable mention prizes. A panel of individuals who have had either personal or professional experiences in the art community will judge all artwork submitted. All artwork will remain on display throughout the MVES office from May 4 through June 3. Senior artists are free to offer their work for sale to any interested buyers through a private arrangement.
