If you have a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO, PPO), you will be receiving or should have received information from your plan regarding open enrollment. This information explains changes in your plan for 2021.
During Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15 to December 7, 2020), you will have a chance to CHANGE your plan for next year.
Trained SHINE Counselors can help you understand your plan, changes and options you may have. SHINE counselors offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs.

There will be no in-person consultations this year. It is important to have your Medicare and insurance cards along with a complete list of your medications when speaking to the SHINE counselor. Mystic Valley Elder Services SHINE program serves older adults in the communities of Chelsea, Danvers, Everett, Lynn, Lynnfield, Malden, Marblehead, Medford, Melrose, Middleton, Nahant, North Reading, Peabody, Reading, Revere, Salem, Saugus, Stoneham, Swampscott, Wakefield and Winthrop.
These days, it can take an expert to figure out medical coverage. That’s why we provide it. Our free health insurance counseling program, Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone (SHINE), provides unbiased, certified counselors who can help you navigate Medicare requirements, check your eligibility for MassHealth and other public benefits, and help you select the plan that best meets your needs.
You can speak with a SHINE counselor by phone or at our 20+ locations. Together, you will review your existing medical coverage, compare potential insurance plans, and make sure that you aren’t paying for unnecessary or duplicate coverage.
All counselors are trained and certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs. They have expertise in Medicare Parts A and B, Medigap insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, MassHealth, and state and federal public benefits programs.

On January 1, 2020 a new state law expanded the Medicare Savings Programs (also known as “MassHealth Buy-In”). The programs can pay your monthly Part B premium, and you will receive extra help from Social Security, greatly reducing your Medicare Part D drug costs.

When you call Mystic Valley Elder Services, our receptionist will connect you with a caring expert who is ready to listen and answer your questions. Our referral specialists have the most current information on services in the region and can make suggestions and referrals at no cost. If they do not have the answer right away, they will find it!

We also offer options counseling to help you make a smooth transition to or from a hospital, nursing/rehabilitation facility, assisted living residence, or your home.
